Assignment 2 - Part 2: Self-Portrait

Image
Andrew Woschitz For my self-portrait photos, I included at least one motion technique learned in the first part of the assignment. All the stop motion pictures taken had a shutter speed set to 1/250 seconds. The rest of the pictures were blurred motion, one of which was set to 1/4 seconds and the second was set to 10 seconds. The blurred motion self-portrait with a shutter speed of 10 seconds could also be considered to be a long exposure. In all of these pictures, I used a tripod with a phone mount, as well as the timer in order to give myself time to get in the picture. Assignment 2 - Part 1: Motion

Stop Motion These stop motion pictures were taken with fast shutter speeds varying from 1/500 seconds to 1/2000 seconds. Depending on the subject of the photo and the amount of light I had, I changed the shutter speeds accordingly. Stop Motion (1/500s) Stop Motion (1/500s) Stop Motion (1/1000s) Stop Motion (1/2000s) Blurred Motion The blurred motion pictures were taken with varying shutter speeds ranging from 1/15 seconds all the way to 15 seconds. Although the pictures with a 5 second and 15 second shutter speed could also be considered to have a long exposure, I think they fit the blurred motion theme better. Furthermore, I had to use a tripod for the last two photos in order to avoid blurring the background. Blurred Motion (1/15s) Blurred Motion (15s) Blurred Motion (5s) Panning Out of all the techniques learned in this assignment, this one was the hardest to put into practice. I tried my best to keep the subject in focus while still blurring the background, as seen in the pictures....

Research Assignment 1

Vivian Maier Vivian Maier's photography was black and white up until the 1970s. Afterwards, she started to photograph more in colour. The subjects of her pictures were mainly people in poor communities, children, the elderly and the people who were excluded from the spotlight. Most of her pictures were taken in the streets of Chicago and New York, where she lived a great part of her life. As a nanny and caregiver who wasn't exactly the center of the spotlight, the motivation that Maier had behind taking these pictures was to show the world the beauty of those who weren't given enough attention and focus. In the 1970s, when her photography changed from black and white to colour, she started to take some abstract pictures, but her main subjects still remained the same. During her lifetime as a photographer, she also took various self-portraits. Lee Friedlander Lee Friedlander's pictures were all taken in black and white, but many of his pictures were not symmetrical. A lo...
